thoughts on parenting

  1. My little lady is three weeks old today. It's incredible how much more alert and aware she is compared to a week ago. She makes the best little faces and noises. I just can't express enough how much I love her.
  2. I have spent the majority of the past three weeks hunkered down in our house. As someone who hates the winter, I can't think of a better way to spend my time than cuddled up with Alex and Hannah.
  3. Some nights Hannah sleeps for six hours in a row and we feel like we are the best parents in the world. This is usually followed by a night when she is up every hour and a half. You win some, you lose some.
  4. It's amazing how little sleep you actually need to survive.
  5. Breast feeding can really hurt. But we're both getting better at it (the 'we' being myself and Hannah, of course).
  6. Hannah is going through a growth spurt and wants to eat ALL the time. I have now learned how to do a lot of things one-handed - including eating. Because of this, my baby is usually covered in crumbs.
  7. When I do get a chance to have a hot meal without a child in my arms, it usually has to be done quickly. Subsequently, I have learned to eat a huge amount in about four minutes flat.
  8. I could never have imagined the number of diapers we go through each day. Sometimes she poops as soon as we've changed her. Sometimes she poops while we are changing her. She managed to poop on the wall almost two feet above her changing table. Alex is SO proud.
